• About us

Sistach S.A. is what it is today thanks to four generations who, for the best part of a century, have passed their values down to their children, based always on curiosity, optimism, commitment, sense of duty, perseverance, excellence, respect and human quality.

Today, these same values continue to provide the foundations for our company and our human team as we face the new, ever-changing challenges of the 21st century.

Our business adventure began in 1929 with my great-grandfather, Manuel Sistach, when, after being laid off, he set up his first business in Berga: Hardware, Furniture, Weapons, Explosives, Radios, Carbides... a little bit of everything.

In 1957, Manuel, alongside my grandfather Celestí, his brother Manuel and other partners, reopened and managed the Barcelona Cable Car, which still crosses the port of Barcelona, as well as other routes.

Celestí opened a dealership in Barcelona for industrial agricultural machinery imported from Germany, ran the cable car restaurant in Miramar, and, with the help of his sons Juan and Xavier, brought butane gas to Berga for the first time.

Unfortunately, the 1970s oil crisis led to a wave of non-payments from our agricultural machinery customers, bringing our Barcelona adventure to an end.

Juan and Xavier took over our Berga weapons and hardware shop, working hard to pay off the outstanding debts, and later split these activities, each managing their own business independently.

By the time, weapons shops were commonly found in almost every town, and they were also authorised to sell explosives for construction purposes.

More stringent Public and Industrial Safety Measures introduced toward the end of the 1990s caused many gun shops to stop distributing them, except for the few that invested in new safety warehouses, vehicles, staff training and other areas.

This is how Sistach became a private security company for transporting, safeguarding, storing and distributing explosives.

My father, alongside my brother Jaume, worked hard to consolidate our comprehensive services for all Class 1 hazardous goods with a new pyrotechnics and cartridges warehouse; since 2009, with me now on board, we have continued with our internationalisation process, offering our global security logistics services for Barcelona airport and leading ports around the country.

And now in 2022, as a benchmark in the security logistics sector and backed by a great human team, we have decided to enter the world of surveillance and goods protection. To achieve this, we have added even more talent to our team, all with a wide experience in aviation and port security, including security guards, specialists in explosives, and certified dog/handler duos to detect explosives, narcotics and people, ready to continue to offer our clients the best security service tailored to their needs.

I hope this brief introduction to Sistach has conveyed who we are, what we do, and how we want to continue in the same vein for many years to come.

    Joan Sistach
